I just purchased a used 2005 F150 Lariat and the Power Sliding Rear Window is not working. My local dealer told me the motor and glass are sold in a kit and the repair is 500+. Can someone recommend a shop in the metro Atlanta area do do this repair (or diagnose the problem) for less?
Keep messing with it. Mine works when it wants too. Some days its good, some days its bad. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but if I had to guess it would be the switch. Half of mine doesnt even lite up anymore.
This sounds like an interesting repair to do. First would be to remove the back seat. Then the panel covering the working parts would have to come out to make the repair or at least figure out what's wrong. I think it's time for Alldata or Mitchell on this one.
Sorry, didn't ask or get old parts. Total charge for parts and labor was $404.08 plus tax. I remember the tech saying that the back seat and panel had to be pulled to get at the motor. I am thinking it was stripped gears at the motor assembly. Probably could have been fixed by a do-it-yourself guy with a little more confidence than me. Dealer was a small shop in Coolidge, AZ.
Most of the time it is a friction locked motor. You can only get the motor with the cable assembly. You can opt to just swap the motors if your cable is in good shape and save the new cable for later. The whole window with cable drive used to be about 1600.00 and I have only seen a couple that had to be replaced. Ive only seen the cables messed up on a few as well.
After repair be sure to lubricate the window tracks well and regularly with dry silicone spray.( Just my personal recommendation)
I told the dealer to skip the repair, because I didn't want to pay the 500.00. When I pulled out of the shop I touched the button by mistake and the window opened. The window has been working flawlessly.
Either it was a very simple problem and they fixed it (knowing I couldn't prove they replaced the motor), or they replaced the motor assuming I would do the repairs. I got lucky on this one.
It was likely friction locked. They slapped it with a hammer and freed it up to verify the motor was the fault. It will lock again in time, sooner or later.
