we taped off the cowl and back under the window with painters tape and clingwrap to keep the butyl off the body..
the windshield was easy... the back window was a pain (that is the 'smoke' tint rear window from MF)
sam, I'm thinking about buying my windshield from Bob's too. He also told me he only had green tint. How does yours look with the green tint? If you could do it over again would you go clear?
I cannot see the tint really.. it is so faint.. If you look at the pictures above,
thru the windshield and out the back smoke glass, vs out the side window no glass.. or from the inside out to the shop..
I have been dealing with Bob for years now, both on my F100's and a few classic hot rods. His distributor is in Ontario, CA near Pomona. I pick up my glass directly from the distributor and save the shipping cost. As an added bit of trivia, the distributor provides the glass to Chip Foose for the Overhaulin' TV program. Bob's prices are very competitive with Sy's at MF and he also sells the one-piece 56 F100 side windows.
the back glass has less room to wiggle around, and we got it off about 1/2in left right to start so it wouldn't seat.. so we had to take it back out and rerun the rope.. course by then we had butyl everywhere!.. ugly..
thanks.. I picked the windshield up at the local distro warehouse, and that saved shipping too. they cleaned it and checked it for chips/cracks with a back light (done this lots obviously).
now If I can get the brake line to the master redone today, I am ready for startup!.. (with what seems like 1,000's of gallons of fluids, oil, tranny, steering, radiator, brake)..
Sam,
Glass looks great! I can't tell it's tinted-of course, everything looks a little green in the pics!
Great progress and good luck with all the fluids.
I just wanted to put in a plug for a Local glass supplier and installer here in Riverside Ca.
It is "Streetrod Glass". I bought everything from them including installation of glass, power windows, chromed aluminum windshield trim and all window anti rattle kits, rubber, and one piece side windows. It included the power window kits also.
I am really happy with the quality. I thought the price for everything was well worth avoiding the aggravation of installing it myself. It will probably make you do it yourselfers feel good to know how much you saved. Mine was $1900. out the door.
Wish I had someone like that here in Dallas. After doing it myself I'd gladly pay that much to have someone else do it right! Door glass and regulators are evil!!!!!
