Might be a silly question, but, Where's the Cat. on my 2000 F-350? My old '96 had an obvious one up in front of the muffler a ways, I quickly "deleted" it and never looked back, but on this new 2000 rig, I only see a muffler, is it some kind of fancy muffler with a built in cat. or what?
really, I thought they had them on all the rigs since they first started using them back lots of yrs. ago, well, I guesse that's good, so I don't have to worry about taking that off of there, is it a good idea to "gut" the muffler or something similar?
Once you start modding the truck, it's advisable to at least do a muffler delete. Some of these trucks have cats, some don't. It depends on what state requirements are where the truck was being sold.
do what i did ha ha if you dont wanna spend 300 right now!! but..... you CAN get you a 4inch turbo back for about 300-350.00 from some of our site sponsors if i remember right anyway thats what i will do when i can afford it. and no its really not that loud alot of whistle and a little rumble at about 2k and higher so needless to say i love the sound
Besides the greater exhaust volume, are there any real benefits to a muffler delete? I figure there may be some advantage for EGT's, but not sure how much. I was going with a 5" MBRP but just decided to go 4"SS since the 5" is only Aluminized with 3 yr warranty. Before I order, I need to decide since no use having a "spare" muffler laying around.
so is it possible to kinda "gut" the factory muffler for some benifit untill the funds for a Turbo back exhaust can be obtained?
It is "possible" but would be a major PITA.
Just go to your local exhaust shop and get a section of pipe that will bridge the gap and install it. Less than $50.00 total expense. A little more if you have them do it.
i guess you can gut one but why not just put straight on there and keep your old muffler if you want it back on? where do you live are the exhaust laws strict or sumthin?
I'm in N.E. Indiana, no the laws aren't strict, I was just thinkin' about trying to come to a happy medium, cutting back pressure but not making it too loud, we deal in and truck livestock and am kinda mindfull of exsessive noise, I've heard that they aren't real loud with the muffler off, but I've never had one straight piped, just may be the time, eh! Specially 'cause it's the "wifes" rig, if I don't like it I don't have to listen to it very often!! lol, and if I DO like it, well then I can do my '96 too, kinda sounds like a win/win to me.

well hell...
how far are ya from Granger?
there's an auto parts store where M62/I23 makes the bend at it crosses the state line...
if they ain't got it, you don't need it.
go down there and get a glasspack and a couple clamps, and a chain cutter for the pipes
