can my 83 4.9 2wd beet a 2wd 5.3 2000 somethin id love to shut this guy up evedently my truck running since 83 is not enough and his has already dropped a tranny_HMMMM chevy oh wait did i say chevy i mean big pile of **** reason i have too ask is years of make weight traction and it is an 8vrs6
I hate to tell you this but if your motor is stock he has got you whipped pulling or racing. The 300 isn't really about racing or pull offs its a take a beating for 300K miles, it does make great torque down low but most V-8 out run and out pull it, they just won't do it near as long. I love 300s for there reliability, longevity, and economy, thats what I think is cool about them I really don't care if it takes me 4 more seconds to get to 60mph. If you have a granny 4spd or an auto and he has a manual you have a chance in a pull off, the newer manual trucks have pretty high first gears, but you said he already blew one up so it sounds like a chevy automatic to me. Sorry but I don't think you will win unless you have a really hopped up 300.

I think you can beat him, easy. Just chain up real good, and hold the clutch at the friction point at about 3500 rpm, and keep letting it out/pushing it in to maintain the most force. You can try sliding your foot off it at 3500, that might shock him good. Be sure you pull your muffler and aircleaner for more power, and fill up with premium. Lower your tire pressure to about 20 in the back, too.
Just to let you know work with a guy with a 1999 5.3 4X4 automatic and it blow my bronco out of the water, I mean no contest, but yeah he had to put a tranny and 3 rear ends in his. He is running 33x12.50s with stock 3:55 axles so his is most likely a lot slower than you buddys. Oh yeah and if you have a manual and are doning a pull off the whole 3500rpms let off slowly doesn't sound like it will be very good for your truck, some thing to consider if its your only transportation.

Not worth to do that. It would make you more embrassement than now.
Best is get bigger truck like 351 with c6 like f250 or f350 would do great.
Ford 4.9L 300 are not for this but it great for slow puller not fast puller. And it have power to snap diff's gear I have see and loose diff on my 79 f150 now it need replace but no money now. It would have lot plays like you change gear forward to backward you would feel bounce because this.
For me I would get f250 with 351 that hsould win if you mod 351 and put heavy duty rear axle.
Drain 2 quarts out of the engine, and half out of the trans and diff for the race. You can get by on the lower amounts, and will have less drag from the oil.
DO NOT DO WHAT WAS MENTIONED ABOVE IF YOU VALUE THE LIFE OF YOUR TUCK AT ALL. I'm mean seriously what kind of windage loss do you expect to see at redline on a 300 mabey a HP or two and if you pump the pan dry its all over for the six (which is possible I saw your post about sludge) stupidity is about the only thing that will kill these motots, taking a half quart out of the trans will most likely do nothing but if it does any thing it will make lower pressures in it causing clutch slipage toasting the tranny, the rear will probably be fine but no gain from that one either. I guess if every thing goes according to plan you can brag up your smoking wreck of a truck with a blown motor, fried tranny, and mabey even a ruined rear end if every thing works perfectly.

I hope this is some kind of sick joke about lessons learned the hard way, just don't mislead the poor kid into blowing up his truck you want him to save for college well having to buy a new motor will not help with that.

from what i understand u have to rev the crap to get any power out of the new chevies.,from a racing standpoint u will get whipped,if ur truck is close to weight with the chevy u have a good chance at poulling him if u kno wat ur doin
Can my 83 4.9 2wd beat a 2wd 5.3 2000 something? Id' love to shut this guy up. Evidently, my truck has been running since 83, and if that is not enough, his has already dropped a tranny. Hrmm... Chevy. Oh wait, did i say Chevy? I mean big pile of ****. The reason i have too ask is years of make, weight, traction, and it is an 8 vs. a 6.
You gotta be realistic in this endeavor. First of all, just look at the numbers.
The carb'd 300 makes:
120hp @ 3000 RPMs
255tq @ 1400 RPMs
The 5.3 makes:
285hp @ 5200 RPMs
325tq @ 4000 RPMs.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love the 300, but you're talking about a LOT more horsepower and torque. True, you're going to be making your 255tq at 1400 RPMs whereas he'll be making his 325 at 4000, so you'll definitely be making it much sooner. This'll help in a pulling contest. However, if he gets his RPMs up, you're kinda toast.
As for racing....120hp vs 285hp? That's a big difference.
As I said, I'm a big fan of the 300, but numbers are numbers, and the 5.3 is just a much more powerful motor. It may not last as long as the 300, but its a bit more powerful.
