Yeah. Do you tow (6K+) heavy stuff regularly? If so, you may want to regear (big $$$). If not, don't worry about it.

I regeared from 3.73 to 4.30 running 285/55-20 and really like the added "umph". It makes it effectively a 4.22 rear end. I've always felt that 4.10's was an optimal ratio for the Excursion even though it was never offered.

I do now, however, sometimes wish I had a deeper overdrive ratio that I could use at speeds over 65.

to "regear" do i have to change the axles and all?? or just the gears inside the differential?

I have run 4x4, V10, 4.30s since 2000. I get 10-11 mpg measured at 75-85 mph consistently. 2000 has 148000, 2005 has 67000 on it.
