Bedliner on Running Boards?

Since I like the look of the later all-black Ex's so much, I'm thinking of making my '00 all-black. That would involve changing or painting the grille and bumpers, and removing the side-cladding; no big deal there.

I was wondering whether anyone here has used bedliner to cover their running-boards? I'm thinking black bedliner would provide a durable non-slip surface in black to complete the conversion.

That's a great idea. You probably would want to remove them and take them for painting.

If you remove your cladding make sure you get the protective piece that goes behind the rear wheel on the lower edge of the body. It is found on early XLT's and current XLS's.

Otherwise there will be exposed holes, IIRC.

Might as well do the bedliner on the lower bumper fascia and the rear bumper tops, too.

FYI - During the winter our town's snowplow idiots got too close with their blade and "shaved" off the black on my driver's side running board and bent it up a little bit. I took it to the body shop for repair - and was pleasantly surprised that the black rubber covering / coating was an item they could order directly from Ford. They basically cut it off, bent the metal back and put on a new outer cover - it wasn't that expensive. Might work for you versus spraying bedliner all over it...

All cladding is taped on 'cept for that rear edge in the back.

I line-x'd my running boards, and I love it. I also line-x'd the grill guard. I purchased it in bulk and did it myself. I have plenty left and plan to line-x a few other parts as well. They look better than stock and have better traction in wet weather. No more slipping...
