has anybody build a box or do you just buy boxes to go behind the rear seat to mount subs. My problem is that I need a box that can accomodate a fairly deep sub so that I can get something to handle the amp that I am going to put in front of them. It is a JL Audio 1000.1 amp and needs some good subs to handle the power! What do you guys think just build a box or raise the rear seat up a couple of inches and put a box under the seat with the subs firing down with some rear vents in the box?
I'm not in to big subs (my hearing's bad enough already) but you might look in to Kicker's Solobaric subs - they tend to be rather shallow with GREAT power handling. Kenwood is also making some shallow subs now too I think.
What are you really going for with the subs? Volume? Bragging rights? Not trying to be an ********, but that is one MONSTER amp that really is best suited for show cars or competition. A few years ago I heard a VW Bug (new style) with a single Diamond Audio 8" sub in it - you'd have sworn it had a pair of 12's. To me, THAT is impressive. Killer sound & not much space used up. Does it look impressive to the average joe? No. But to people that know, it was a STUNNING system and got tons of compliments.
ok so i keep hearing yall refer to the install only for the rear speakers.......what about the front? can u install a pair of 6x9s up front as well? or is that not desireable
Space is tighter up front - both behind and in front of the speaker. Remember, you've got a window in there, and if the speaker is too deep then the window will hit the magnet, getting out of alignment or possibly preventing the window from going all the way down.
Personally, I have a set of component speakers ( 6 1/2" mid & separate tweeter) that I'll be installing...with yet another adapter.
