One Last Question...Timing?

O.K...After checkin' EVERYTHING. I got this wierd idea! I took a wrench, walked to the back of my Bronco, got down on one knee and hit the gas tank. Guess what? NO GAS!!! Guess somebody the past few days figured they needed it more than me. Anyways, just put 5 gallons in. Tried to crank it up. Wont start but at least it's making a "hollow popping sound". Question: If Distributor is a "tooth off" one way or the other(Advanced or Retarded)it wont crank and run...RIGHT? I dunno. I think I'm gettin' too old to keep doing my own mechanic work. Hard to believe I used to be a Diesel Mechanic(schooled)in the Oil Fields. I have noticed the past couple of years or so that my memory's not near as good as it used to be. Thank GOD that and my eyesight are bout the only things that are failing me so far! Anyways, I've always gotten some really good info here on FTE and I do appreciate you folks puttin' up with me...Thanks

Being a tooth off doesn't matter too much, since you can twist the distributor to get it in time. Being a tooth off will cause trouble only if the distributor hits something as you twisting it around to time it, and you can't get there because the dist won't twist anymore.

Here's a link on how to adjust the valve lash. This is only if you have an early engine.
