460 cfm question please =)

Hello every one.
I just got a new well all most new 79 f150 with a 460.
I was climbing around in the engine and saw the carb is a Edelbrock 750CFM 4bbl.
I saw "trucks" awhile back when they made Das bronco and they said you don't really need any thing over 650 for a bone stock 460.
Well I have a another carb siting in a box under my bed and was wondering if I should try it out. What do yall think about this? should I give it a try or would it not be worth my while?? Please let me know what you think

A stock 460 lives quite well with the stock 600 CFM so if you have a 650 it will be better than a 750.

Cool thanks for the reply Bear, oh also I forgot to ask this but what about a aftermarket manifold? would I see any improvements other then losing that 2 ton Iron manifold?
If so whats the best and maybe cheapest brand you know of the only one I was able to find was a Edelbrock.

For a 460 cubic inch motor,

a 750 cfm carb is good for up to 5634 rpm.
A 650 cfm carb is good for 4883 rpm.
A 600 cfm carb is good for 4507 rpm.

Basically, even on the highway cruising, 600 cfm is more than adequate. It is during hard acceleration over the above rpm's that power will drop off, so depending on what you want to do with your driving, choose your carb. A 750 cfm is just fine on a 460 though; I doubt you will gain much, if anything, going smaller. I have a 600 cfm Edelbrock on my 460, and no problems. Drives better than stock 4350, and easy to tune. Just had to get rid of the stumble that the 4350 caused when stopping, and price was right on the 600 from ebay! lol

He will gain low end throttle response because of the smaller throttle bores and venturis. The cam on a 460 runs out the time the stock carb runs out. With carbs and stock motors bigger is not better.

If it runs good and gets average mpg (around 10 or so ,some get a little better some a little worse) I'd leave it alone, but a 600 will work just fine..I prefer them on stock 460's

gas has to travel up hill to reach the heads of the engine so replacing the old iron witha higher rise intake runners makes sense performs better and wil not hurt gas mileage with the right carb this is my 2 cents worth

What????? The gas better be vaporized by the time it is in the intake and as long as the engine has vacuum from the cylinder the air/fuel vapor mixture doesn't really care about up and down. You need to go to school an engine dynamics and physics.

Your sentence and theory on how things work inside the intake make no sense, but hey if you think you are an expert in your own mind, be my guest.
