I just received some tunes from Evan at Spartan. My question specifically is what do the tow tunes with the brake do? I received the tunes but no explanation as to what i can expect from them.
I assume your refering to using the turbo as the brake. Basically it has the turbo create back pressure in order to help slow you do. The less of a load you have the more aggressive it will be, the heavier the load it won't seem as aggressive. If you put the tune on and your only hauling 2k it might seem like too much braking power, but if your hauling 10k, then it's just a little extra braking power. One word of caution, drive as conservatively as you can in order to allow for a nice gradual braking as that will help with the excess braking power if your hauling a lighter load. Of course, I do have to add that this was before I got my new turbo put on the truck and the other Evan(that's my name as well) might have tweaked it to where it's not that aggressive, but as I recall he did like to have it on the pretty aggressive side.
Sheryle,I am loving the injectors, they run great on all the tunes I've tried. The MPGs I am not sure of the truck has all ways been good on fuel(better with the original PCM) I can get 20mpusg empty, highway pretty easily. The only odd thing is the idle is slow to stabilize at 750rpm. It likes to idle closer to 880rpm after being on the throttle.

do you mean like when you let off the throttle while driving the RPM's stick at 880?
i am asking because with my larger injectors and any Spartan tune, if i let off while driving the RPM's stick at around 1000 and don't drop until i get to a stop. sometimes the RPM's will drop down to idle before i stop if i slow down slowly and sometimes the RPM's will stay at 1000 even when stopped for a few seconds and kind of surge a little.
just wondering if this is kind of what you are experiencing?
THANKS
My mustang used to stick at higher rpms until I came to a stop. I always thought it was the computer trying to match the fuel to the air intake. At speed more air will be coming in, therefore more fuel would be needed and could cause the rpms to stick. I know absolutely nothing about it, but that was my seat of the pants theory.
My truck is a standard and I usually use the gearbox down to a crawl then brake to a stop.Once stopped if I don't load the motor to slow the rpms the idle will stay at 880ish and slowly get down to 835ish.If I slip a little clutch and load the motor for a second the idle gets to 750 and is happy to stay there till next stop.So I think its the same as yours but without a surge. Mine also acts like this stock. Without a tune the truck isn't very happy since the operation.
