I'm repainting my 65 CC two tone wimbeldon white and rangoon red....the truck is a custom cab but doesn't have the aluminum molding pieces....if I decided to not but the molding on (because the only stuff I can find is 650.00 for all 10 pieces), where should the paint break be on the two tone...I know it's not exactly on the crease on the doors on the models that have the molding pieces. Or, if I do get the molding, does anyone make the stuff with the red insert in the middle as was customary on the trucks when they came new in 65???
thanks guys...and info and pics would help before I get going with the paint!
Thanks guys....so those Carolina Classics moldings are good quality....and witht that red stripe? It looks like the 64's with the delux paint and not nolding used the crease in the sheet metal as a breaking point between the two colors...
I've got the same EXACT delema...Mine was originally all rangoon red, but I'd like to do the cab roof in white, without moldings the transition line between colors is vague.

If tutone, the roofs were painted in the contrasting color, not white.
The trucks I've seen were usually tutoned with white, so in your case, Rangoon Red would appear on the roof (including the drip rails), and along the sides below the scallop line.
The hood would have been painted all white, the tailgate would have been all red.

I took pics of the F100 SuperNationals Truck show in Knoxville TN last week, then sent them to SteveBricks, our FTE SoCal chapter leader who posted them here on FTE.
One of the pics shows a minty 1966 F100 4WD Shortbed Styleside tutoned in blue & white.
Look here: SoCal/Hawaii Chapter / Thread: Pics from the 2008 F100 Supernationals / First photo is this minty 4WD Pickup.
Here's a question for everybody on the two toning....if the truck was not originally two toned (mine was wimbeldon white only), is it better to simply repaint it the stock color, rather than do something that wouldn't have come from the factory? I know it's personal preference, but does a "wrong" paint scheme lessen the value of the truck? I'm curious about that roof only contrasting color and will look to find those pics you mentioned here.
Just checked those pics ND...nice ones...but I don't see a truck with just the roof painted to contrast color....where would the color break be for the top...just the top and rain gutters or down to the crease above the back window?

The tutoned blue & white 1966 F100 4WD is painted in the original factory paint scheme.
This is the only tutoned scheme available, unless a customer special ordered a truck that specified that only the roof was to be painted white....and a special order would have been the only way that would have been done.
White was not used for the roof if tutoned (excepting camperspecial65's tutoned white rarity).

I also wanted to paint tutone, mine was a all white 66 4x4, so my painter took pictures of my sons 66 2wd and matched the lines as close as we could. If you look at my gallery under the 66 4x4 you will see it. I went with very differant colors, but in the tutone stile. The chrome is painted on.
Anyone have any pictures of the two tone yellow (bottom) and white upper? I saw one like that at the auto show here in Portland a couple months ago and it looked great. Also...the trim for 63/64 is the only type that has the red painted inner piece....and yet I've seen several trucks here that are 65's or 66's with that style of trim....where are people finding the 63/64 trim if it's not being reproduced....I didn't see anything on e-bay.
I have seen several trucks with a different two tone scheme. I always assumed they came that way - perhaps not. See my gallery for a red truck with white roof.

There is a 65 here in Prineville Or. that is painted like yours, mostly I've seen the CC's are painted like my Sons, it is the red and white truck in the pictures with my Green and Gray truck.
