Unhappy please help

hey glad to find this site ,,hopefuly i can get some one to answer my problem i am having with my 1986 motor home 460 c-6 tranny carb dura SPARK 11 ignition,,,,,
Now let me begain,,, i bought the motor home about three weeks ago , it only has 27000 org miles ,,,ran great,,,untill,,,the soliniod,when got hot would not crank the vehic,,,well got new one and hooked it up and had nothing,,,no dome lights nothing,,well fig i crossed the two wires on the pos and neg post of the soliniod..the little wires that go on the pos/neg ,,,well switched them around and the dome light came on and i started the vihic only for it to stall ,,,well fig when i crossed the wires maybe i blew a fues,,,nope,,changed the brain box still stalls,,,changed the fuel pump relay ,,still stalles,,changed the coil still stalles removed the fuel line and turned key over and pumps fuel evey strok,,,man i dont no what i did or what happened when the wires got crossed but i am about to go insainer,,and baulder..lol..please any body no what i should do next,,,it will crank after spinning it over a wile and stalls in about 15-20sec,,any info will be app..thanks and glad to be on the site,,,JOECOOL3

There's a color coded schematic here;
Duraspark II

You should check to see if the pickup (stator) in the distributor is good.
I found I have 660 ohms across mine, but don't know what it *should* test at..

Well,
If you don't have spark and the wiring isn't burned up then it might be the pickup.
Easy enough to check.
Just unplug the distributor and measure resistance across the 2 parallel blades in the 3 pin connector.
The other (black) one is ground.

No need for it to be "on", the signal is generated by the magnetic "reluctor" sweeping past the hall effect coil.
Here are instructions that can help show you how to change it, if you find that's the problem.

ardwrkntrk ,,,thanks for all you have done,,, but i do get spark ,,and it will start after pumping gas a few times ,,but shuts down in 15-20sec every time,,will the pickup cause this ,,i meen it has to be some thing ele after crosing the wires on the soleniod...i will test the pickup in the morning ,,,just hook my tester to the pickup wires ..top two and spinn it over and should have a reading around 660 oms???thanks JOE

No need to spin it, you're only checking for resistance *in the stator*. It's not connected anyway if you've got it unplugged. (you're checking the distributor side of the plug)

But if you say you have spark... notice there's a "start" and "run" position to power the "brain box" (as Oscar Meier said)

And it dies after running for 15-20 seconds.
I think I'd start from square one.....
You didn't affect the compression crossing wires, and since you still have spark(?) I'd start looking for a fueling problem.
These three things are all you need to get it to run.

Can you get it started if you pour a little gas down the throat of the carb?

I HAVE POURED GAS DOWN AS IT WAS SHUTING DOWN AND IT STILL SHUTS DOWN ,,WHAT IS THE FUEL PRESSURE ON THESE MOTORS???ALSO I CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP RELAY AND ALSO TOOK OFF THE FUEL LINE AT THE CARB,,AND PUT A CUP UNDER THE FUEL LINE AND TURNED OVER THE TRUCK AND IT WOULD PUMP FUEL EVERY STROKE OF IT TURNING OVER??????THE WIRES ON MY SOLINOIED THAT I CROSSED IS THE GREEN WIRE THAT CONECTS TO THE POS SIDE OF THE SOLINIODE THAT HAS THREE OR FOUR WIRES CONECTED TO THIS GREEN WIRE DOWN LOW (FACTORY) AND AFTER NO DOME LIGHT NOTHING THEN SWITCHED THEM AROUND AND THE DOME CAME BACK ON AND STARTED THE MOTOR ONLY TO SHUT DOWN LIKE ITS DOING NOW,,,,IT RAN FINE UNTILL I CROSSED THESE WIRES ,,,DO ANY BODY NO WHAT THIS GREEN WIRE THAT HAS THREE TO FOUR WIRES GOES TO ??? I WILL CHECK PICKUP AND ALSO TRACE DOWN THE START WIRE FROM THE KEY SWITCH,,,,,crazy,,,THANKS JOE,,,P.S ARDWRKNTRK,,,I HAVE A BULLY BREAD RED NOSE PIT THAT LOOKS ALOT LIKE YOURS,,,NICE DOG BRO,,,

Checked The Oms On The Pickup And It Would Peg My Meter All The Way To The Right Swing,,,,,were Is The Ballast Resistor Located,,,,,,under The Stering Wheel????
