Forged would be smooth inside. On the cast slug it's a bit rough inside and you'd see some sort of parting line from the sand cast. Can you take a pic of the inside??
Wow that's pretty fast service!!! And yep US made. Bring em to work Mon and see what they weigh.
I'll have to get a better look but John said no forged. (.84426 - .84528 kg)
RedBob, what kind of pistons did you receive ? Genuine TRW/SpeedPro L2291Fs are forged, they all have 'L2291F030' stamped clearly in the tops, and they shouldn't weigh 845 grams, thats way, way, too heavy. Something isn't right here.....Who is Glenn ? Are these pistons cast copies of a TRW original ? DinosaurFan, on an old 'puter work threw out

Yeah I think they are cast repops. The 845 grams includes the wrist pin. That was the same weight of the 395p as well +/- 2 or 3 grams so ??
Dino... I'm Glenn. I looked at Egge EGGE, Inc. to see what they had. They listed a L2291 piston there but only for $125 per set. So sent Bobby the link and to check them out. I know the TRW L2291's should be forged. So I'm not sure if these are a copy made by them or what?? But at $125 a set that's pretty cheap for forged and they are more than likely cast. Bobby can fill you in onb the details as he spoke with them. So I'm not sure exactly what he got??

I'll get a better lok at them tomorrow and maybe snap a pict or two. Planning to go annoy John all day tomorrow LOL.. cant relocate yet, somebody has to listen to me bitch LMAO!!
The 395P weighed in at 855g for usa made & and the (cow worshiper) 844g including wrist pins. See post on page two so the weight seems pretty normal.

LOL you better bring the coffee and donuts then!!!! And some beer for later on.
Bob, the numbers all look at least 100 grams overweight to me, but my fuzzy memory now wonders if I am thinking about the weights without the wristpin....that would be about 100 grams or so.......CRS gets you after awhile. Is it becoming common for people to have such difficulty finding FE pistons ? I have never understood the 'hard to find parts for' notion that some folks have about FEs. I have always gotten whatever I needed the same day, or overnight at worst. Do I have an unusual situation, or are some of y'all shopping at the wrong places ? Toss us a hint where to shop.
Barry R (Survival Motorsports)is a place to shop and he doesn't have .030 OEM replacements on hand or easily accessible. Nor did Maddog who sold me the 352 kit (which was in great order), folks seems to have .020, .040, .060 etc.. but the run of the mill is .030 I think and somehow these seem to be elusive.
Hopefully I wont need anymore pistons for a while now (that don't cost upwards of 500.00 a set)
RedBob, I have always gotten my parts at the local machine shop. I have also worked there, off and on, sometimes full time, for the last 23 yrs. There is a wharehouse distributor about 35 miles away in the next large town. They have always been able to get me whatever I needed, usually overnight. The shop gets stuff everyday from the WD. I'm sure that the machine shop gets better service from the WD than Joe Blow might get from summit or wherever. If .030 pistons are in short supply, why not use .020s or .040s ? Bearings, (010,020,030 ) gaskets, valves, all in stock, nothing has ever been 'hard-to-find'. DinosaurFan, on work's old 'puter
Make sure to watch out for good deals on the Speed/Pro Line...From what I have heard thru Barry is that there now made Offshore and the tolerance's arent up to par and needless to say the castings or Forgings after a certain date... I know Barry said he wouldnt stock them any longer do to such ? Anyway Just what I heard ?
Hey Redmanbob, I dont mean to hijack your thread but I was doing a net search on Larrys because I was looking at sending my car to Larrys Performance for an engine rebuild...did you visit the shop personally , could you give me some honest opinions about it?
