Angry Cast vs. Forged 390 Pistons!

Anyone getting the speed pro pistons L2291f and having problems with getting cast instead of forged??
I have ordered three separate sets of pistons from summit and the first time got 6 forged + 2 cast, second time 8 cast and third time 8 cast.
The really messed up part is the part number is the forged number on all pistons! The cast are identified by a sandy look on the unmachined parts (ie-sand casting) while the forged have a marbled smooth look! Maybe I am wrong and speed pro has developed a new technology where they can forge aluminum and leave a cast surface finish.
Be aware that you are paying a premium for the forging so dont accept cast pistons!
Let me know if anyone else has this problem!

Cast vs. Forged 390 Pistons!

Welcome to FTE!!! Thanks for the info. All of mine were forged. It must be a mistake becasue I don't see how they could think people won't notice.

It sounds like you need to send back those castings and start shopping somewhere else !! DF

Cast vs. Forged 390 Pistons!

The new speed-pro pistons have a new finish!!!!! They look cast. they are media blasted or something. so check it good and make sure its not forged. the new finish looks , silver with kinda rough finish. look inside see if there is metal plates casted in the wrist pin boss area. if you can see them then its cast. I just wanted to warn you that they changed the style!!! plus most of the new ones are coming with skirt coatings. so be carefull when installing these kind.

Cast vs. Forged 390 Pistons!

Funny, the guy at the parts counter said the same thing!
If it looks cast, smells cast, then it is cast! Tell me why a company would spend at least 50cents in labor and capitol per piston to put a media blasted finish on portions of a piston that never come in contact with any other engine components than the oil??? Now, if you were in charge of these pistons for speed pro how would you explain the cost of the extra surface finish to your boss? CUZ it looks cool boss???? Yeah right!
Also there is no additional benefit from a "cast" finish vs a smooth finish when one looks at the effects of surface stresses. In fact the smoother finish is probably preferable for limiting crack initiation.
Actually the truth is, Speed pro is pawning off cast pistons as forged and getting unknowledgeable persons to buy them.
