I've had my truck for about 8 months now, and since I've had it, about once a month, some times more, some times less, it will start acting up one day, and sputter, miss and stall for a week or two and then run fine/GREAT for another month or two. I've had a dozen guys look at it every time it starts acting up, half of them went to lima and work on diesel for a living.. nobody could pinpoint the problem. well it started acting up week before last and after being stranded in a storm for two hours I broke down and took it to the local ford dealer and told them to figure out what the heck was going on. two days and $252 later here is what they told me
scanned for codes and has exaust back pressure codes p0475 & p0476 and not working at all. could be 2 problems sensor defective, or feed tube plugged and or needs replaced. they do NOT think this problem would cause it to stall or sputter. they monitored ICP pressure during test drive and found pressure would drop at times causing stall conditions. (they never did get it to die though, go figure) they recomend replacing IPR solenoid and engine wiring harness due to condition of terminals and wiring. estimate for repairs $1,600
now there is a 7.3 in a local junk yard with 50,000 miles on it that I could get the parts off of.. but would it be better to buy new or can I save a few bucks? seems like they think they wiring harness is getting bad but not causing the problem so maybe just the IPR sensor would fix the problem? (a $600 part from ford)
whats your guys input? most of you have forgotten more then I will ever learn so please help me out.. I do NOT have the money right now to buy the parts new.. thanks again for any input you might have
sorry for the long thread but this problem has been pissing me off for awhile now.
Ford did you well up to the point where they said $1600 to repair! The IPR harness is about 12 inch long and also incorporates all fuel filter housing wiring. I would make sure the nut of the IPR is tight. If it is you can get a New IPR on ebay for about $160 and then order a new harness for the FF housing and IPR. I doubt the whole engine harness is bad.
any pictures of where the IPR is at? a diagram or anything? if it's only a nut missing or loose you just made my day! and I'm going to call ford tomorrow and see if they where talking about the whole harness or what. they said the harness would be $400
Down deep. I think the nut is 18 or 19 mm. its just a tin nut so it won't take much but it should be snug. For $400 chances are they want to sell you the whole harness. When I get into my office tomorrow I can get you the part number for the small harness.
