A 2007 is the best there was to offer for a 6.0L. Ive had four 6.0 total (2003,2004,2005,2006) and only two made it past 250k miles/400k km. Not far past and not without a lot of attention, mainly EGR and cooling/sensor problems. My brother-in-law has a thing for the 6.0L and is still driving two of them. His 05 is at 370k miles and his 06 is at 160k miles. He needs the two in order to have something to drive, because one of them is always occupying one of my shop garage bays

My advice, skip a 6.0L

Too many people deal with the cooling issues way too late in the life of their 6.0L engine. Same with the weak 04.5+ EGR coolers and weak fuel pressure regulator springs.

That, along with ignored maintenance if people fail to stick to the time-tested practices, will end a 6.0L's life prematurely.

Can't tell you how many people have argued in the early years about keeping the coolant and oil temperatures properly maintained. Coolant shouldn't be allowed to get over 215 and oil shouldn't get over 220 if you want longevity. That said - on used trucks, who knows what kind of life they may have had.

Still enjoying my 6.0L ..................

Just seems the 6.0L when being used primarily as a light duty hauler or unloaded commuter faired much better. The 6.0's that were worked to capacity daily needed attention on a regular basis. Cant complain though as the 6.0L put plenty of money in my pocket being the owner of a fleet maintenance garage.... Then came the 6.4L but the majority of my customers were already in a Cummins powered Dodge by then.

My 05 made it to 26x,xxx, but It did cannibalize my 03,04, and 06 to stay working for me.

Still quite a few people towing trailers, campers and boats with their old 6.0L. 12k-15k is the top end most talk about.

I still contend that most owners didn't have a clue as to the extent of maintenance and precaution required! Should it have required that- who knows and who cares at this point, lol.

I completely agree, they require much more attention than the 7.3L everyone was used to and fell to the hands of neglect in the early years, coupled with a few design flaws that were remedied by 05. If you can get your hands on a very low mileage one owner 6.0L nowadays id say give it a shot, but to buy a high mileage 6.0L is rather foolish with all we know about them.

My brother-in-law stands to inherit a 2003 6.0L with 29k on it when his father gets to the point he cant drive anymore.

Wow. Probably a number of die-hards on the 6 or so remaining (active) 6.0L forums that would like a chance at that one.

I made it to 205K before lifter failure put needle bearing debris through my Low Pressure Oil Pump and contaminated the oil system. I plan on starting from the ground up, starting with a fresh long block. The cost of an engine is cheaper than a new truck. Think about starting fresh with all of the lessons learned (ELC rather than Ford Gold coolant for one) applied. Imagine knowing the maintenance from the start (mine had ~170K that I had no idea about use or maintenance when I got it). I believe the 6.0 can be a strong runner when properly maintained.

Great engine to get with the hindsight 20/20 we have now. I have a customer that had a 04 with only 48k on it. He sold it last year and the new owner totaled it shortly after. I also sold a dump insert last year to a contractor with a 03 that had 32k on it. I hated to see the dump insert go into it and knowing its going to see lots of idle hours and short trips. I offered to trade him for one of my 6.2l gas engine trucks better suited for his use, but he refused.

2003 excursion made it to 247K when one of the head gaskets was starting to go. Puked a little coolant but morning crazy only when towing. It got a complete overhaul. Bottom end looked good. Camshaft was starting to get some wear. Lifters could have been fine but it’s a gamble I didn’t want to take.
