A good cam (not sure whats out there as I've never looked) and some work to the heads (port & polish & valve job) would probably wake the engine up dramatically. Now, if you could find an aftermarket intake...that would probably make it a whole 'nother animal!
Good for you. Now there's less chance anybody might be confused.

You seem very experienced w/these pickups. What do you think of some member's seemingly preposterous claims that removing the cab is the expedient way to do head gaskets?
You dont need to remove the cab or even unbolt it or anything, this engine comes out easily... only thing different from an normal engine pull is that the intake MUST come off.... i pulled my 4.6l with it on and dented up my fire wall a bit, but i put my 5.4l in without the intake without a hitch.... droped right in "literily" (lol long story)....
Club Wagon and I got into it a little bit about that in another thread. No offense at all Club...but the way you word your posts makes it very hard to comprehend. Use some smilies or something to express your feelings/thoughts...
As far as the cab removal...I don't see why you would need to remove the cab to pull the engine? You shouldn't even have to pull the front clip off. But, I have never pulled one of these engines (and I damn sure don't want to!).
