What's wrong with my starter?
I had no start, no clicking, nothing. Called a buddy to help push me home and he suggested knocking on the starter with a hammer. Tapped it gently a few times and it started right up! Had the same thing happen a few hours later, and I just jumped out, gave the starter a few taps with a flashlight and away I went.
First thing I'm going to do is check the wires and confirm good connections all around. Any thoughts on what else to look for or check for?

That is a problem I have had on every one of my fords, and in all my cases after making sure all the connections were good, the tapping on starter it would eventually quit, and I'd just get a rebuilt one. I'm not sure but I think it has to do with the contactor on the side, think it just gets worn out and gets stuck in position.

corrosion internaly due to moisture and years of abuse, nothing new here, just get a new one and forget about it, nothing worth trying to repair, get an aftermarket, they come with lifetime warrenties
