Hey guys, I'm going to be rebuilding my 292 over the summer, and am looking for any pointers/ideas for making it go easier from any of you who've been there/done that. Any info is useful!
Thanks guys,
-Andrew

Nothing, and I mean nothing, stirs the soul, saying I'm a bad **** like lettin'em rip with a window shaking, fuel gulpin, carbon monoxide belchin, attention gettin, V-oh my LORD!-8!
reccomend right off the get go hardened seats... everything made in detroit before 73 as the story goes......(2 angle grind)
if u use the rope rear seal soak in 90+ weight oil for long long time, will not tend to leak after it seats. "y" blocks normally are leakers but not bad actually.
recommend electronic ignition if u b short legged or armed, silly chevy idea any ways.
don't do the "t-pot" 4bll, sure it looks cute but what a nightmare to keep tuned.
I tend to really like those oil bath cleaners over anything else out there, they work and don't really have any intake drag to speak of.
thats the best right off the top of my head, hope it helps
ask the right questions, i'll do more for ya
T-pot 4bbl? i think I'm going to need an explanation on that one...
My plans:
intake/4bbl, headers with 3" pipes and flowmaster 50's, possible deck-mill, hardened seats with head/valve job, possibly larger valves, mild cam, pertronix ignitor to replace points, newer style wide dist. cap with 8.8mm wires, maybe a MSD 6 ign. box and a 40k coil.
Any ideas?

u r apparently not shy to part with your money hp,.... so i highly recommend line bored and balanced.... it is the only way to fly!!!!!!!!!!!
early 4bbl ford carbs were called "tea pot" carbs, becuz the resembled a "tea Pot". once u see one u will never forget (they got connections for vacuum all over them)...
All the ol' timers that i have ran across thru the years had nothing good to say about them, they were definitely not user friendly.....
since i'm a thru and thru a ford guy, i don't know if anyone built any other types of 4bbl's out there for the other breeds, so as far as i'm concerned they all used 'em......
If I can get the parts at the right price, I may work it out to a 312 as well.

A good first step would be to subscribe to Bruce Youngs "Y-Block magazine". This is a bi-monthly magazine that should be considered esential to any Y-block owner. (yblockmag(No Email Addresses In Posts!))
Also contact John Mummert- He has a web site now. He may be the west coast's leading authority on Y-Block machine work, and is very interested in them- really a wealth of information. (http://www.Ford-Y-Block.com/).
Also try http://members.aol.com/Yblock/YBLOCK.htm. Lots of information and messgae boards too- Good luck! Steve
gonna have to check out that "rag", didn't know that was out there.... another quickie HP, be sure to use a x-over pipe even with the headers and big pipes, u wouldn't believe the difference it will make on that ol y block... if u can afford one more item.....
Yeah, I've heard to paint the front of the pipes with light colored paint, and where it goes the darkest, that's where the X-over pipe goes... right?
