I went by a local Rim Shop today to price check a set of wheels for my Expo. I was told 24' wheels would fit my truck with no probs at all, BUT i was warned that i may have Tranny problems later. They advised that i go with a 22' instead. I was also told if i went with a 24' wheel i would need to accelerate slower to not damage my tranny...
...What are your thoughts on this? Are Expo trannys good enough to withstand big wheel?
mine runs fine on 24's, i don't see how there is any difference between 22's and 24's with regards to curb weight of wheels, the larger the wheel the smaller the profile of tire you fit thus trying to keep the overall rolling circumference as close as OEM s possible. There are weight differences between 22's, 24's and the OEM wheels, but as for 22-24? i'm not sure its that significant.

Im with you on that, I mean how much more weight can 24z be....How long have you had yours on?
Had mine on for 3 months now and they are running great. I guess it all depends on how you drive... i bought my SUV as a 'cruiser' to carry all my work gear and to look good at moderate speeds, its not for the usual 'traffic light grand prix' and launching it lol. Besides, having thought about it, if the tranny is going to struggle moving a set of 24's how can it be rated for 9100lbs of towing capacity?! i dont know what my wheels weigh, but rest assured they are no where near that haha
Should get my superchips flashpaq and my magnaflow exhaust this week too, then its a case of making my own custom cold air intake... so i'll keep you posted.
as i said, it depends on where you live, how you drive and the standard of roads. For standard urban driving then 24's are no problem even in low profile like mine...
my mpg dropped by 1 sometimes 2mpg per tank depending on type of travel. Small stop start journeys will be affected as it has to overcome a greater resistance (inertia) in order to get moving... however, the reverse is true when cruising at higher speeds, the heavier weight results in greater momentum and thus means it can maintain a certain speed with slightly less effort... think of it like trying to push a large boulder while it is sat stationary on flat ground, then doing the same when its rolling down a hill
My expo is being used as the Family Hauler...LOL Yup she will be as Suburban as they come. Drsmith, excellent point, how in the world is a huge SUV thats pretty much made to haul & tow sutff gonna suffer rolling on 24zzz.
Can you post a pic of your Expo in this thread? Thanks in Advance.....
