Does a stock '05 6.0 have an auxiliary turbo cooling fan or auxiliary turbo boost booster or something?
While pulling trailer over some mountain passes this weekend I encountered a new noise. In addition to the usual turbo sound it sounded like a German dive bomber from a World War II film would spool up under load. After it did whatever it did the dive bomber sound would bleed off - similar to the way a regular turbo does when you lift of the pedal a little - without me lifting off the pedal. It sounded like it was supposed to happen but I don't know what it was ... if that makes any sense.
I've pulled the same trailer/weight over the same passes before and not heard the sound, though it was much hotter and there was a stronger headwind this time so there was likely more of a load on the motor.
Its prob just the fan kicking in. Like u said is was a lot hotter and u were driving against a head wind, hotter air temp + engine under a heavier load = hotter engine temps and subsequently the fan to kick on. So u shouldn't have to worry......there arn't ***** hiding under ur hood lol
