Transmission cooler lines direction of flow.

2001 Ford Expedition. Is the bottom line from the radiator the return line to the transmission? Thanks as always!

I don't know for sure, but I'd think you could run the vehicle, feel the lines, and the cooler of the two would be the return line.

I am not sure which transmission you have, so I will list the lines for the 4R70 and the
4R100. Hope this helps.

The return line to the 4R70W is the top line on the transmission.
so the top line on the transmission is the cool line IN from the rad.
bottom line of transmission is hot line OUT to the rad.

4R100 Front (Forward) line on the transmission is the OUT line (Hot) to the rad.
The Rear line on the transmission is the IN line (Cool) from the rad.

Thanks for the quick responses. Does the line from the transmission usually go to the top of the radiator with the return line at the bottom of the radiator? Thanks.

I have two expeditions. One is a 1999 the other is a 2004. The 99 has a 4R100 transmission with an auxillary cooler.
