My truck sometimes has a lope at idle. You can't hear it in the moter, but the truck will rock side to side very slightly like it has a big cam in it. Anyone ever notice this in their truck?
if you have a chip or icp mods it can lope occasionaly,
most 7.3's have a semi-chopped idle...ie not purring.
if it enough to actualy shake the truck side to side it may be the icp going bad, next time it does it unplug the icp sensor while it is loping, if it smooths right out then you need a new icp sensor. dont forget to check the 3 pin pigtail for corrosion too.
Mine does it too sometimes when warm. Seems the worst when pulling in after a long drive. I previously had a miss at idle that you could feel in the cab and hear in the exhaust. It's much better now after a set of injectors but I still get the lope.
I know they're not all the way mine is anyway. I drove a 95 PSD the other day and immediately I noticed the idle. It was as smooth as a newer one. Kinda made me mad as my truck looks and drives brand new compared to this beat up one. Mine (which is stock) would run circles around it though as far as power.
My truck does it and I replaced the ICP sensor (it was leaking too) and had no difference. Does it more after a long pull too. I herd the Trans Range Sensor can cuase it too and I replaced that too. ( I was having trans problem so I figured it was worth a shot). I still havent fixed it but the part that bothers me the most is the shake. I get people all the time that say there sounds like there is something wrong with your truck and i just say I put a cam in it and they just agree like thats a good mod for a diesel.
I do have a 14.7K resitor on the ICP but the truck did it before and after that. I dont think its the superchip becuase it does it when I program it to stock too.
Good luck on fixing it just thought I would share what I replaced to try to fix it.

Motor gets to opt temp?
EOT compares?
Mapp compares?
Baro compares?
Fuel return screen is clean?
If so i would take fuel pressure/ICP/IPR reading's before and after a long pull.
Compare both. It will give you a direction to go in if its a oil issue.
Would also do a cyl cont test before and after.
Would also check for air in fuel.
