how hard is gas hitting you?
Gas was 3.89 today, I'm 16 and work at an amusement park called 3 flags over padre. Going from school and back isnt that bad since the trip is 3miles and luckly my GF lives right next to the suburban highway so that saves alot! but to get to work I have to drive 10miles and over a 2 mile brigde with a really big incline. My buddy recently got a job near mine so I have him paying me half for gas since all I use my truck for is to get to work, my mommas G8GXP is what i use to go around town
Agreed! When I was in HS, the friends that wanted rides and didn't have cars, I'd charge them $10 a week. That was basically $30 per week for me in my pocket since gas was $1.99 at the time. And we only lived maybe 4-5 miles max from school.
i am sorry to say that gas is hitting me pretty hard. my truck gets around 11 mpg, so i am sad to say that i am going to have to sell it. I am probably going to get an old cop car. my grandpa has a used car dealership and he goes to car auctions a lot so i am going to talk to him about gettin me one.
Yes, I am also getting raped at the pump, Im 23 spending 160 a week on gas , so between getting my *** to work and making rent im spending over $1800 a month. It is killing me, and now my truck seems like it is just falling apart, if didnt need my truck i would have burned it.
I am working full time right now, 40 hours a week at 11 bucks an hour and have just about a 50 mile round trip each day. My car is getting 26 mpg so you figure I burn just under 2 gallons each day on my trip for work, so I spend about 9 bucks a day for work, times 5, thats 45 bucks a week. But usually I fill up at least twice a week so I'm pushing right around 100 bucks a week for gas, its a pretty big chunk considering the paycheck I am making.
What I did to help myself a little bit, is I got a credit card that I only use for gas. It gives you a minimum of 5.5% cash back on any gas purchase for the first six months. I sure do wish that I still had my old 86 escort. That thing was a 2 door hatchback, 1.9L carbureted with a 4 speed on the floor. That thing would get over 42 mpg highway if you kept it under 60. And when I first got it and had it tuned up, when I used to travel between Michigan and Connecticut on a regular basis, it would get 34 mpgs and that was doing 85-90 mph the whole way (tested many times). IT was a great car, cheap to fill up (only an 11 gallon tank) and cheap to maintain. 4 tires for that beast cost me what 1 tire did for my f150! I am keeping my eyes out for one of these old escorts.
Gas right now in my area is between 4.25 and 4.39 a gallon btw.

man i know the cost of living is high here in So Cali but there is no way i could live off of $11 an hour, i am looking for a new job and at minimum i need $21 an hour or more just to live...
As if it's not already expensive enough with the cost of gas and food going up, but saw on the news this morning that the public utilities (Xcel Energy in my local area) will be upping rates towards the end of the year (roughly November).
They quoted the average rates for the Denver Metro area to go up around $300 for the months 11/08-05/09. For this time frame last year (11/07-05/08)the average household paid $996, while the same time frame this year the cost will rise to $1200-$1300.

When I was still in the states, at least half of my check was going towards gas. I dont really drive gas hogs either. I have a 98 Ranger 4 banger for my weekend cruiser, and a 98 tracker as my daily. When I left gas was at 3.50 in Texas. Im pretty sure I will just stay in Afghan till the gas prices come down.
I'm 19 and work as an IT Tech for local government in the Dallas Area. I make almost 30k a year which comes out to nearly 900 a paycheck and I'm still having trouble with gas. Gas prices suck, so everything else sucks. Movie tickets are 8.50 a pop here!
