Howdy, I've got a kawasaki 1100 zxi jet ski. The stinkin starter solenoids keep sticking. I have already replaced them once and it started sticking again. So every now and then it wont quit cranking until I disconnect the battery. But if I go to reconnect it they are still stuck. I usually have to let it sit for a while and then try again. I am guessing I got another bad starter solenoid. Anyone have any other ideas?
It's probably too light duty for the current draw, either it's a garbage part or the starter is drawing more than it should.
You could probably replace it with a Ford solenoid if the Kawi one is small and cheaply made.
I’d be wary of an automotive part in a marine application; though the chances are small you still have an enclosed space that can fill with fumes… and you know where that can lead. I had the same problem with a sea-doo, though the replacement seems to be ok a year later. you can still go with an alternative solenoid, I’d just shoot for a marine version.
Yes I do know what happens when fumes ignite in these things. Had a buddy of mines jet ski litteraly blow up on him. I felt the blast from inside my house. He was ok though.
Just came back in from tinkering with it. It was cooperating just fine, I almost had it started. Then it starting going crazy. It starts cranking like the battery is going dead then the cranking speeds up to normal and thats when it wont stop cranking and I have to undo the battery. Oh and after I unhook the battery if You sit there and listen you can here the solenoids click off. Lol its kinda funny I have a 8? (cant remember now) saki 650 sx stand up and this is the most reliable toy I have ever owned. This thing can sit all winter and when I go to start it- it only takes about 2-3 seconds of cranking and she's ready to go...
