Not sure how accurate this is or if anyone has heard of this before, but my girlfriend just got a memo from her security division about Cat theft.
This memo originates from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in S.C. and they reference 4 thefts at the University of South Carolina and others in Columbia. They also referenced an employee's vehicle suffering the safe theft.
The memo states that Toyota and Nissan vehicles are the most prized due to platinum content being the highest in these brands. The memo also goes on to say that ALL trucks are especially vulnerable due to their height and ease of crawling underneath.
Can't vouch for the claim but that is the memo that is being circulated from BC/BS. Anyone hear of this before?
Similar memo circulated here by security..(Northrop Grumman), but the accent was on personal safety. Wouldn't want to walk up on someone doin' their thing......
The theft of Catylitic converters is on the rise all over the country. They can fetch $40 to over $100 each at your local scrap yard.
On a good note...the sale of sawzall blades are on the rise....along with lowering kits for SUV's. I guess the train of thought is, if you can get your truck to sit low enough they can't get to them to cut them off LOL.
Its been happening here in detroit the last 3 years. Bunch of losers in this city - since every things gone to the crapper most people are looking to kill, steal or cheat their way to any amount of money. CC companies are trying to come up with a system to either match vins with the cars they come with or have some sort of certificate to register your CC. Nothing so far
If the insurance companies take a beating for the thefts then there will be some sort of law put into place. Until then the goods guys keep paying.
How about the idiots that are stealing the copper wire right off the power poles in the city of Detroit. Killed a couple of the dummies but there are some entire neighborhoods without power. I'm not far enough away from that mess for my liking (40 miles).
