"Ford Motor Co. founder Henry Ford used to tell customers they could buy a Model T in any color as long was it was black. Not any more, at least for the time being."
Ford has suspended production of black trucks.
This suspension also affects other model lines.
"Ford, in a memo to its dealers, said its plants will continue producing the vehicles affected. But during the week of April 4, it will produce no F-150s, SuperDutys, Expeditions or Navigators in “tuxedo black,” the memo said. Ford also will limit production of tuxedo black versions of the Explorer, Taurus and MKS at its Chicago assembly plant."
The pigment used to produce "tuxedo black" is from Japan and is currently unavailable.
The colors “royal red,” “red candy,” and “red fire” are also being limited
Painting cars for a living, I find this interesting. Tuxedo Black is popular right now as I have been spraying it often. I wonder if this will affect my paint supplier?
Interesting...I wonder if this will impact other products as well. I remember in the mid-90's, I was building computers and there was a fire in some big epoxy factory in either Japan or Korea; this factory produced like 80% of the world's supply of some special epoxy product, and computer RAM immediately shot up from $25 to $100 per megabyte and took many months to settle back down. (In comparison, memory is almost free these days.)
Of course, I could give a darn about little supply problems like this when the health of millions of people is in some degree of danger in Japan...good mojo to them over there.

Thats the way we SHOULD be looking at it, thanks for pointing that out. Reps sent!
pretty sad when ford can't even have the paint made in the USA, there will be many more shortages maybe ford will move some suppliers back to the USA??
I am sure the paint is made in the US, but the pigment for the paint comes from Japan... Some materials can only be found in certain parts of the world.

Just a guess but,
I Bet o'l Henry Ford found black paint in the USA without going to Japan for it.
I bet Henry Ford could also go to a store and buy a pair of shoes, a shirt, and a pair of pants made in the US...and fill up his car with gasoline that didn't come from the Middle East--but that is getting pretty far off topic.
