Hope this is not a duplicate post but my local dealer said as per a memo from HQ they were ordering extra parts this week in anticipation(sp) of the teamsters going out at midnite tonite. He said it hasn't been in the news because they were going to strike GM but changed to Ford. Anyone hear this or is he blowing smoke up my tailpipe?
The Union is "model" of the past. Let them strike theselves right out of Jobs. Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, etc have all proven that you can build a great car, right here in the US for less, while still paying competitive wages. I would love nothing less than to see GM and Ford move all manufacturing down south. All consumers would benefit as we could buy cars/trucks for less which would leave extra money in our pockets to spend on other toys such as boats, 4 wheelers, jet skis, hunting equipment, 2nd cars for our children, etc. I could go on and on.
I have many very close friends who are union labor and even they see the writing on the wall. They realize that No one deserves a job, we all have to earn our pay and we all have to sacrafice. Frankly, I pay for a good % of my health care and you don't see me threating to strike. I can't. If I don't like it, I can choose to leave and find something else. Instead though, I realize that the company simply can't fund everything. It is a partnership.
.......would this fix it,how about if you want a job at the big 3 you need to buy $50,000.00 is stock/share's,with what they get paid they can afford to go to the bank and borrow the money to buy the stock, that ought to put the shoe on the other foot and bring them back down to earth, that will give them a reason to help the company turn a profit and stay in the black with more productivity and also keep wage's under control, the influx of capital will put cash back into the company and if they want to KEEP their investment they just may keep the out of line wage's under control, also the health coverage bill for GM run's more money than the cost of the steel in what they are building.
BFSD350 you are right. I am in SC, Just a few miles down the road from BMW, where they make the X5 SUV. SC gave them all sorts of tax breaks plus pleanty of people willing to work there with no help from the union. The people I know that work there love it, plus after 2 or so years they get a free BMW. If Ford, GM, and Dodge are going to make it they better get out from under the union or they will go broke. You have to admit that the overall quality of Honda, BMW, Toyota is better than American. No reason, they don't have all the over head. Dodge is better beacuse they started over and got rid of a lot of the overhead.
Anyone know off hand how much Ford's avg. profit is per car sold? I saw it once and was very surprised, very little. After they pay the help buy materials, shipping all that. I just can't remember the exact numbers.
Also wanted to say I am not saying Ford's are not nice. Every vehicle I have owned has been Ford.
