Keep in mind, the van turbo still has the compressor map of a stock turbo.. All you're doing is changing the exhaust side, so it is freer flowing. Sure it can support 400+hp, but it does not even come CLOSE to flowing the air needed to clean up 400+ hp worth of fuel! If you don't believe me, i'll post Jeremy's 434hp run. His smoke in the beginning of the run is almost as thick as once the turbo has spooled! Of course he was running B codes, i wouldnt run anything higher than stage one or two's with a stock compressor'ed turbo.
I dont see how i have better stuff.. Yeah i have a fuel system, and a transmission, but he has smaller tires, 40cc larger injectors, plus (probably) a stronger HPOP, and a freer flowing turbo. The Garrett is better for performance i found out yesterday.
Change your mind about the TN?
I agree with you on the Van Turbo. But for my setup (especially with towing) it cleans up very well at the 350 hp level, and for about $1,000 less - I'll take it over the extra 10-20 HP.
I dont know yet. I cant decide still gonna be about a month before I buy it but.... Im getting the fuel system and injectors first but.... Im not for sure.
TN BB did just fine on the dyno at 467hp... Buntting is coming out with a 1.15 housing for it as well. at 40#'s boost the TN BB 1.00 is at 46-48# drive pressure...
Yeah Boggerr said the Garrett is better for all out performance, but can surge. I have yet to hear of a TN surging, like a stock turbo with an ATS housing surging... I'm keeping my BB TN, i love it.
Hmm, stock turbo with ATS housing will not surge but GTP38R will eh? Looks like the ATS is a take-off of the GTP38R housing and uses a *******ized intake tube to match. Identical minus the name. Stock turbo is a Garrett. Wonder what is going on here?
Come to think of it, the compressor housing on a TN looks eerily similar to the Garrett. Looks like a copy to me. Wonder which came first? Maybe I should install the 1.0 housing to see what happens because I have zero surge with my 1.15 unit.
I don't care enough to do it. I have no reason to at present. Too many other projects.

For now Rich. It should be serving you well. If you wanted to go any further, big oil etc, the van turbo is going to be taxed. Jeremy made over 400 with those B codes, but he was shopping a turbo when it let go. He was making a lot of smoke. Myself, I had about the same or somewhat less smoke than last year and about 90 more HP.
I am not sure what a lot of smoke means besides unburned fuel. I cannot say whether that is harmful or not but it certainly means there is fuel to be burned. It seems that means unrealized HP.

Absolutely Mike, If I went to stag II's or 200CC like you I would have to do a turbo upgrade first. It's good for now and only cost me $250 - If I wasn't spending so much on fuel pulling the camper this summer I would have liked to ****** up that H2E for $1600. But maybe I should leave the PMR motor as is for a while?
