hi all, i'm in the process of putting an aod into my 69 f100. got it installed, shortened driveshaft, hooked up the b&m shifter. when i shift into reverse there's a delay before it engages. it shifts into first with same delay. second is touch and go sometimes is works. 3rd doesn't do anything and no od. the cable is set(lokar). i bought it used and it's supposed to be a good tranny with a shift kit in it. any ideas what it could be. the shop is going to pull the pan tomorrow and take a look but the old fluid was a good color.
the shop did it. he tried tightning it today with no luck. now he's thinking valve body. i'm working 7-12 hour nights a week so didn't have time to do it myself. i almost wish i had taken a few days off.
turns out it was the valves sticking. he put some new ones in and it works well. might have been because it was sitting in my garage for 6 months. makes a big difference in my truck. i just picked it up and wow. going from a farmer 4 to the aod. haven't tried squaking yet but going through town it's about 150% quieter, almost idols going down the road. can't wait to take it on the highway and see how it runs there.
thanks

well took the truck camping for the last week. i had put 250km on it in town but never on the highway. got the truck about 75km from home and it lost d and od. managed to get it to the campsite and checked the fluid. black, burnt and full of black dots.
today i managed to drive it home in second, 2 hours of chugging along watching the gas gauge drop. i'm thinking he didn't set the tv cable right. tomorrow after work i'll have to take it back and start fighting him. i even took it to mister tranny so i wouldn't have this problem.
so far $2200 in parts and labour and 343 km on it.$6.41 a km and i'm still out my truck.
before i take it back to him i'm going to take it to a friends shop and have him check the cables adjustment so i have some backup before i go to court.
well we checked out the tv cable today, alot of slack and couldn't move it by hand. the owner of the mister transmition pretty much told me too bad. took it to another shop and he looked at it for 5 minutes and figured out it's either the cable or valve at the end of it. he can't take it in till fri, but if he finds out it is improperly installed i stand a chance in court.
so much for their warrenty.

well it was set way off, we took 1" out of the kickdown cable. finally got it into the shop, the tourq conv was jammed up against the bolts holding the flywheel on, the bolts weren't the new ones i bought. the flywheel doesn't look new like i had bought. the bolts were pressed into the tourq conv, actually slight dents. he stopped the teardown till i got there with a camera so he had just got the tranny out on fri. from the look of it mister tranny couldn't fit the aod in so he made some room with a ball peen hammer. they had to lift the body up to get the tranny out. he also broke the b&h shifter connection at the tranny, somehow he snapped it and just through a washer over it.
hopefully monday i'll finally get my truck back cause this is getting way too much.
