Oh joy, I just received a notice in the mail that my 1997 Flareside that I traded in a few months ago was towed by the State Police and is being stored. The kicker is, it is being stored at the dealership I traded it in at. Anyway, I am wondering a few things here. Obviously they sold the truck or sent it to auction, why am I getting a notice about it being towed. Still registered to me? If so, can I pay the $200 and get it out, maybe part it out? I cant sell it, no title. I turned the tags in the day after I traded it in. I will call them tomorrow and try to straighten this out. Any ideas?
If you traded it in a few months ago, you are no longer the owner of the vehicle, even if they never changed the registration. They have the title, so they own it. Send them the letter, and call the number on the letter and inform them. Then, call the dealer and let them know. You are not responsible. The owner of the vehicle is solely responsible.
my bro's car was stolen, then involved in an accident, the storage place charged something like 25 a day till 4000 bucks. Then I think they own it. this was a 5000 dollar car, now mostly destroyed, he threw the letters away
i sold a car a couple years ago. I work 3rd shift. one afternoon I woke up to check phone messages, there was a message from the Illinois state police saying I needed to contact them and it was urgent. so i called them back. they said they found my car abandoned on the interstate. I told them my car was parked in the driveway. evidently the "lady" that I sold the car to left it on the side of the road and the police looked up the VIN and the paperwork hadn't went through because it had only been a couple days since I sold it. After i told them that,i never heard from them again.
I am not sure why it was towed. The letter said it was running. I dont know if it was a traffic stop or illegally parked or what. I gave it some thought the night before I called them though, and if they still had it I was going to tell them to just sell it. Whoever bought it already picked it up though, a woman bought it, I dont know how I feel about that.
