FIPL valve/sensor

A while back I posted I didn't have a kickdown on my 91 F 250 7.3 with the E4OD. Someone mentioned I needed to adjust or replace the FIPL valve/sensor. What is it?? I can't find it mentioned anywhere in the Ford factory manuals. Is it the same as the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)?

Thanks in advance.

Was your neutral safety switch bad? We unhooked the TPS and the truck ran/shifted GREAT! It has never run that good since I got it but still no kick down.

i believe you unhooked something other than the fipl , if it were disconnected the shifts would be extremely delayed
the neutral safety switch is the transmission range sensor it only sends gear selector lever position to the processor and has no input on down shifting
however if it is bad the vehicle can have gear hunting

I replaced the TPS and no difference. I had the old one checked and it checked good. Now where do I start searching??? I'm not sure why I mentioned the neutral safety switch in my last post. We never touched that. Is it possible the TPS isn't getting any power? HELP!!

Have you tryed adjusting it? with a warm engine slide a paperclip into the center wire and hook a volt meter to it and to ground you should have 1.1v closed throtle and a minimum of 3.v wide open throtle and no more than 4.3v wide open throtle.

Adjust it by loosening the two screws and moving it on it's axis? That's the only way I see to adjust it.

Thanks!

The smaller torx screw only hold the sensor on. The larger phillips head screws loosen the mount that lets it turn to the right or left.

Thanks!

it should have larger torx screws holding the plate to the IP
the bolts are special shouldered bolts
if someone has replaced them with standard bolts or screws then the sensor cannot be adjusted correctly because it cannot center on the IP shaft

Looks like that's a place to start. I guess I need to go to the dealer to get new ones?

The small torx screws do alow some adjustment but it sounds like you may have found your problem.

Well, still no good results. I tested the voltage at the FIPL and th etransmission. One side of the three pin connector at the FIPL had 4.93 volts. The others had very negligible at a setting of 200m. I tested th connection at the trans and it is getting 14 volts on one side and 4.93 on the other. Any ide3a where I go from here?

Thanks in advance.
