v10 trans cooler

Is it safe to assume the v10s have a separate cooler, and diesels don't? My cooler lines go directly into the rad.

They should come out of the radiator and then to the cooler. At least mine do.

I believe my '02 F350 psd trans cooler is down at the bottom, in front of the radiator behind the license plate and at an angle.

From what I have read on Trans coolers, the V-10 cooler is just a little smaller than the 6.0 cooler...and they are also separate from the radiator.

Gary, I thought that one at an angle behind the bumber went to the PS fluid pump. Thought trans cooler was incorperated in radiator?

No Kidding? I'll have to check that out. My '91 had both the radiator and a air cooler stock. I added a bigger Tru Cool for pulling. That's not good news.

That's your PS fluid cooler.

Your tranny cooler is sandwiched between your intercooler and your radiator.

Are you saying the Tru Cool is connected to your PS lines? If so, you have the coolest power steenring fluid around.

So do you have a separate cooler?

No, the factory metal lines went from the trans to the radiator (it may have been an option as I didn't buy it new), then out to a small finned cooler (about 6" X 11") and then back to the trans. I disconnected the small cooler, and replaced it with a much larger Tru Cool on a friend's advise with rubber hose lines so I know it's going back to the trans. I don't have a trans temp on the '91 so I don't know how much it helped and I don't pull with it anymore. If the PSD has no cooler at all after the radiator, then I think I'm going to use the old '91 cooler on the PSD and it should help. Most of the time pulling it runs about 175 but has gotten over 220 in the Sierra's. We'll see what it does. I suppose I could take the Tru Cool off the '91 too. Guess I'll do it that way.

No, don't bypass the cooler in the radiator. It removes a lot of heat from the ATF. You need it there.

Remove the aux cooler up front and install the new one in it's place.

My truck tranny did not feed through the rad. So after a rebuild, I added a Tru-Cool heavy duty and the V10. The V10 bolts in the stock cooler location. My tranny hasn't run over 145f and that is puling a horse trailer although that was local and no hills. I will give it a workout in a couple of weeks when we take the horses to Land Between the lakes about 90 miles through hill country.
