We never seem to get tired of arguing about it, so no harm done. Just don't expect to form a clear answer based on our opinions.
There is probably more to your requirements than just a daily driver. If you are just going to go back and forth to work, you really don't need a superduty. But if you just want one, "because", hey that's as good a reason as any. If that's all you plan to do, you may be one of the few who should go with the 5.4L.

Too true - you will even see us have different opinions. It all adds to the fun. I have, and you will also, - get good advice way more often than not.
Choosing a V10 over the V8 or vice versa may be a mute point in some regards. Just trying to find a V10 on the lot may "force" you into going with the v8. they are scare. They're getting a little more popular due to diesel prices but the mentality to many stocking dealers is..."special order only".
Buying it used? Find a great deal on a clean truck and buy it which ever it has. That's what I did, and I LOVE my V8. I'm not sure I would notice, good or bad, either way doing what I do with a truck (hauling bass boats and dead deer).
I'm pretty happy with my V8 & i tow plenty ... there are times i wish i didn't have to push it so hard for hwy speeds towing but .. even if i do .... it still gets the same mpg as a V10....around 7-9 mpg
I'm surprised no one has spoke up about "redford"s comment. If you are going to do comparisions, compare apples to apples. Is not an '05 a 3V engine? He is comparing horsepower of a 2V to a 3V engine. I believe (and I may have the numbers wrong) but the 3V V10 has about 60 more hp than the 2V he quoted. So in reality the V10 has considerable more hp than the V8. Torque too!
I'd base your decision on how much you think you will be towing with it. I could probably have gotten by with the V8, but like others have said, a 4x4 crew cab is a heavy truck (my F350 CC LB is 7500lb curb with the B&W hitch, which incidentally is right in there with a Dodge 3500 4x4 diesel quad cab dually) and having the extra grunt of the V10 has been nice. I thought I'd be towing between 6-8K, well quite a few times I've been up in the 10-12K range, so having that extra power is definitely nice.
You may be limited on what you can find if you're not special ordering, though. Lots of V10 guys seem to have to order. I'm one of the exceptions. I found a fairly rare XL V10 on the lot, so it can happen.
thanks, i'd likely go for the extra power of the v10, might be a pig on gas but it'd do the trick, as far as the daily driver bit, it'd be to go to and from work, being a tradesman, i doubt i little geo would go where i need to go, if i could get by with one i would, but there is just no way
I have a 5.4L, I have had to haul scrap metal for work with it and even with the truck loaded with around 2 tons of metal it does well. I also have a diesel 7.3 and figure the V10 and diesel are very similar but the diesel gets better milleage.

You have to read his comment very carefully. He is comparing the older 2V V10 to a newer 3V V8. He is doing that to show the difference in the power of the engines. Yes, the newer V10 (05+) has even more. But his comparison was to show the improvements in the V8.

Also bear in mind that the numbers quoted are peak numbers and that V-10 has a seriously flat torque curve.
My '04 2V V-10 vs an '06 3V V-8. We had similar loads (cars on trailers) and I pulled away from Mike by several hundred yards on a 6% pull for 1.25 miles. his truck did the job, but mine did it better.
As for driving Mikes truck...it's a great driving truck and has sufficient power. Our fuel mileage is similar until we're loaded. Towing the cars, I get 8.5-10 and he gets 7.5-8.5.
