302 build up

I'm looking to turn my 1990 f-150 into a street/strip machine to run at the local strip. I've never messed around much with performance parts so i don't really know where to start. I'd like to use a 302, take a mass-air fuel injection set up off a mustang and go from there. I plan on starting with a new block and going from there. I can get a block for $300, and would like to keep the whole engine under $2500. What brands and products should I be looking for? I hoping for at least 300 horses, give or take. Can I do it for that price? any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

it can be done, i'd start by getting a complete mustang 5.0 eng. and go from there. these already go real good and are easy to find. find a machine shop that you can trust, thats not too hard to do, and have the intake plenum runners ported, that will help as well as the mass air. and if emissions arent a big deal get a new h-pipe without cats. hope this gives you somewhere to start. mocky

Well, i got a hold of a cheap 351 so if I can locate all the fuel injection components, I may use that. I'll probably just keep my eye out for a cheap mustang 5.0 HO like you said, since parts are readily available. I don't suppose anyone out there has a used 351 EFI intake?
