When I was at NAPA getting my Ball Joints they where acting like there is two different front ends for the 2001 f250 5.4 4x4?
Is there two different front ends? I want to make sure I got they right ones because I was using the tool to press them in and couldn't get them in all the way to get the snap ring on.
So before I bring them to a Machine shop want to make sure these are the right ones.
I remember him saying there was a Light Duty truck and a Super duty truck in that year?
Of course I have the super Duty.
One more question. When I pressed the upper Ball Joint on there was no way in hell I could get the groove for the snap ring to show? On the ford OEM there is no snap ring on top. Is this normal and just run the snap ring on bottom? I am using Motorcraft ball joints from NAPA
The upper balljoints don't neccesarily need the snap ring. There may be a provision for it but I've never used it. There isn't a lot of clearance on the bottom of the upper BJ to the axle shaft anyway. IIRC, the bottom of the joint is usually flush with the knuckle surface. It's unlikely that the ball joints will come out with the truck always pusing up on them! I think the snap ring is more of a reassurance that it is in far enough.
Ok, Moog says from 1999 - 2004 ALL F250 4x4s use upper ball joint number K80026 and Lower ball joint number K8607T. Have them cross reference those numbers since I believe Napa has their own numbers.
