'99 Ranger blown engine

I have a blown 3.0 liter engine on my '99 Ranger. I've been given a 3.8 liter engine from a '95 Mustang, but I'm not sure if everthing will work. Does anyone know if the 3.8 will bolt up to the tranny and everything without major modifications? Any help will be appreciated.

I make no claims to being a pro and others will add their imput.
The first thing that comes to mind is the ecm, followed by wireing harness's. If the engine WILL attach to the tranny it is going to lead to other problems.
If you are going to attempt it take pictures of EVERYTHING that you are disconnecting from the old engine [digital film is cheap to process]. Posting pics's of problems will help the Guru's [which leaves me out] on this website give positive feedback.
Regardless of how you proceed, be it with this engine or another, use neverseize on all the bolts when you go do to re-assembly. A bit of dielectric grease on all electrical connections doesen't hurt, either.
Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The 3.8 and 3.0 really have nothing in common as the 3.8 is a 5.0 with 2 banks lopped off. Motor mounts, ecu, nothing will work, it's like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Stick with a 3.0 for ease of installation and to keep cost down. Even the 4.0 or 2.5 would need a donor truck to get all the parts you would need for a swap. Your truck is set up for a 3.0 and thats your most cost effective replacement, it's plug and play. A free 3.8 won't be close to free if you try to use it, a new 3.0 will seem free in comparision.

3.8 essex.... you can get Thunderbird 5st tranny to bolt it on. Engine mounts differ too.

But '99 3.8 may be supercharged, not like in taurus. 190HP as i remember. shoul ride like 4.0 with manual tranny

The Mustang 3.8L won't bolt up to a Ranger 3.0L drivetrain.

If you seriously need more grunt, you could always drop in a 5.0L which would be an "easier" swap in any case, taking into account he fact that it's been done many times before.

I agree. Some things to do: custom engine mounts, custom DS, custom wiring, custom cooling system.... What a reason if there is 4.0 cologne. But 5.0 is a good deal. There are 5.0 explorer. so 5.0 should fit ranger too.
