53 emergency brake cable hookup

I put an 97 explorer rear in my 53 and would like to hook the original e-brake cables to rear disc brake calipers. The explorer caliper has a hook setup and the original e-brake cable has a round button from the drum brakes on the end. Has anyone been sucessful in this setup.Thanks.Jim

You have to mate the two different ends some way, You could make/build your own cable, using cable clamps from a hardware store I guess. There is a company called " Control Cable" who might make you the cable required with some exact measurements supplied by you. I've also mounted the exploder rear, and a 03 acura E-pedal ,and a front cable from another vehicle...it's about 10-12 " short...perfect!..I 'll make up a short cable when I'm at that point. If usinng the original 'pull-handle" assy, I'd be sure and go over the assy to make sure it's operating/working as it should...maybe consider a new front cable, just to keep things in the same century...and working together.
A well thought out and functioning parking-brake , looks good and works even better, don't take any short-cuts here, your life may depend on it someday,Good Luck!

i've done acouple rear swaps using the 8.8 into different vehicles, i used the rear to cables from a 2000'ish jeep grand cherokee. i've also made brackets that let me use the original "drum brake" stlye cable ends, thats before i found the jeep cables........ here's a picture of my bracket.

I second that motion of calling Control Cables, Inc.. I used an 8.8 rear from a lincoln with disc brakes and integrated parking brakes, and a mid 80's F150 foot operated pedal.

CC (Control Cables) sent me a perfect set from the foot pedal to the rear wheels. $130 total. Took me an hour to install, mostly spent on placing the junction.

They have all kinds of cable junctions too..

Works great.

I used the original cables on my 94 exporer disk brake rear end, and came up with a solution. On the exporer the front of the cables join together near a bracket, which connects to the single cable from the cab. I used a lokar cable for a 48 ford from the F1 handle, ran it thru the firewall and down the left frame rail, fastened with lokars bracket to the frame. I seperated the two explorer cables so my single lokar pulls on the two explorers with a "T" type of bracket made from threaded rod and square tubing. Weld the oe pieces on the front of the cables to the threaded rod, then run the rod thru holes drilled in the square tubing and attach with nuts for adjustment. Use lokars threaded rod assy on their cable, running thru the square tube like the others. Fab a bracket to mount the rear cable housings to the frame. Post again if I wasn't clear enough.
