yup, after many folks being concerned and questioning my tranny (bill, robb, tj, others) it went today. it had been acting weird, and today it wouldnt shift outta first. sometimes not even if i let off the gas. sometimes not even if i manually shifted. i went to the trans shop, and was gonna leave it, then they said wait- "you been having ABS light flicker any?" YUP. "bouncy speedo?" YUP. they said go put a speed sensor in the old girl. i did. ok for a bit. then started again. it gets better if ya shut it off, but ithad false shifts (rpms drop, feels like a shift, but back to same gear) and hanging, then even rpms go up and down up and down like a yo-yo till she shifts. this was supposed to been the best build they can do. it is 10 months old, and less than 20,000 miles. they thought its the shift actuator kit they put in it. they said they'd "help me on it".
so tonight my dad comes over and says let me drive it and see about it. so he does. he makes it bout a 1/2 mile, trans light flashing. super chip says good old p1728. trans slip error. and a p0603. he said with our weather (hot then cold then rain then hot then rain then cold) had been causing lots of sensors to go bad. but now with the code, i just dont know what to think it is. eh, we'll see monday when he drops it.
weather change wont make the trans fry....lmao. sounds like a faulty build, with those mods on your truck the tranny should last the life of the truck on a stock rebuild.
Have you replaced the MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) mounted over the selector rod. That sounds like my old bronco I replaced/upgraded this part and the tranny was like new again.

x2 on that, I think the parts store calls it a Neutral safty switch. But i belive the real name is Trans Range Sensor. I had the OD light flashing and harsh shifts and sometimed had to manually shift it and that was the problem with mine. I would get one from Ford though becuse I got one from Auto Zone and It went out agian in less than 2 weeks. Got one from Ford and its benn in there for 5-6 months now. Good Luck.
is the tranny in a 92 a e40d??? well nvm it is a 2 wheel drive...
Yes, since your posting in diesels. The engine option determined the transmission options.
1992 trucks with the 351 and larger engines including diesels used the E4OD automatic transmission.

P1728 is a general slip code now. It used to mean converter slip. But, actually it's a just a guess made by the pcm. Anytime the sensors in the loop don't output within normal it throws 1728. The axle sensor will have a value compatable with engine r.p.m. etc, when all is working correct. If not it blames the transmission with a 1728 because it's between the 2. There is no actual sensor for slip.
This could be an electronic or mechanical problem. The shop should be able to test and command each shift if they have the right tools. Then determine if it's an electronic or mechanical problem and fix it.
