I have a 94 F250 5.8 liter with 96K miles. Can I remove the fuel rail and clean or replace the filter that is placed at the top of the fuel injector? Has anyone done this? any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated.
this truck sat for a long time, I changed out the inline fuel filter on the frame rail. I put in a full tank of gas and the engine will drop out as if I turned the ignition off for a second. I've even replaced the TPS, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Thanks for the reply, I even replaced the coil, a person here had mentioned that his bronco did this and he replaced the coil and the problem went away, I hooked up an OBD1 code reader and recieved no Trouble Codes, I don't know what to try next.
you might wanna try putting a timing light on it and watching the light to see if it stops flashing just when the engine cuts out,and put a fuel pressure tester on it and watch it also.. I have run across several times on customers cars that when they sit, rats sometimes make it their home under the hood and chew on a few wires also.
Gas starts to gel pretty quickly these days, I know if I don't use fuel stabilizer when storing motorcycles I have problems with clogged low speed ports in the carbs the next spring. I can immaging fuel injectors would suffer similarly. Best results are usually obtained when the injectors are completely removed from the vehicle and serviced by an injector shop, this usually involves new filters and seals, and cycling the injectors with cleaning products until the proper spray pattern is obtained. That said I have seen several sites with DIY injector cleaning procedures on the web, one in particular looked like it got pretty good results. The injectors were removed from the vehicle, filters and O-rings removed from the injectors, and then they were soaked in carb cleaner for a period of time. Then compressed air is forced through the injector while it is electically activated, and they were reinstalled with new filters and O-rings.
