steering gearbox leaking

Nobody has a crystal ball that can tell how prepared you are. What is impossible for one person may be easy for another. Its not 100%clear if you're asking about replacing just a seal or the entire steering box. At the very least I'd suggest you review what's required in a Haynes or Chilton manual to get a better idea what's required.

Thanks for replying I am planning on replacing the whole gear box. it looks easy enough to get to I was just a little concerned about where the shaft from the steering wheel attaches. I am not sure how difficult it would be to line up.

You going w/new or used? A good used 1 might be easier to keep lined up if you can pull it off yourself & are careful to keep everything centered straight ahead. Its possible to keep your steering wheel leveled, not neccessarily easy.
A new 1 doesn't come w/Pitman arm, so you'd need to transplant the old 1 & line it up as well.
Either way, replacing the steering box means a trip for alignment to most people.
