Question about transfer case and front differential...
On a '97 F150 with a manual shift 4406 transfer case - when the transfer case is in 2wd, will the front driveshaft still turn (being driven by the front axle) or does the front axle have some type of disconnect?
I'm wanting to swap a 4406 from a '97 F150 into my 5.0 AWD Explorer, but the Explorer has no front axle disconnect. I wonder if it would hurt the transfer case to have the front driveshaft always spinning the front t-case output, even when the t-case is in 2wd?
it won't like it. Depending on your gearing and hwy travels you might get away with it. The 4406 was not designed to spin that fast. Don't ask how I know.
