I've been reading some threads that speak of mileage. I've got a '95 2.3 5spd. My avg. on a 55 MPH hwy is 33mpg. My average while I'm at work (delivering pizzas) is 24mpg.
I'm sure I'm gonna catch some h3ll for this, but that's my mpg's.
BTW, I was a math major in college.
Have at me as you will. I'll be back in a couple of days.
I've calibrated it every which way I know how, including the "measured mile." The only way I can figure it is I'm either completely lucky or completely stupid...
BTW... I didn't say I had a math degree. I just said that math was my major in college. Right now I run a Pizza Hut store... Which kinda involves a little math...but not much.

Reason: truck specs...
There are different factors for different people. I get better mpg than most people on all of my rides. The reason being is that I live and work in the country, I do no city driving, small town at best. So my local mpg favors most peoples highway mpg and isn't much less than my highway mpg. My 04 4x4 ranger was 22/25, mustang GT is 22/26, my fusion is 26/30. Not doing any stop and go city driving keeps my local mpg closer to my highway mpg than most. Folks do have different factors that come into play.
About a month ago I made a 312 round trip to Sacramento in my 1985 ranger 2.3 liter 5 speed Ranger, and it got just over 23 mpg. However, this truck sat for 8 years prior to my buying it, and all I did to it prior to the trip was replace the battery, one tire, and top off the fluids.
I remember this Drew Carey episode where they replaced all his pants with ever larger pants and told him he was loosing weight... maybe somebody's slipping you an extra gallon between fill-ups. Even at $4 a gallon not an expensive joke on a Math Major who fastidiously tracks his gas mileage.

Wendell must drive with a light foot, that, and timeing lights will work wonders. So does tire pressure. Of course Wendell lives down in the tropics, which doesn't hurt, either, now if he lived in da nort' country... eh!
One question comes to mind, are you running full synth oil's?
I don't know, but what some of you have getting for fuel mileage with your four bangers compares to what I've been getting with my six banger 4.0 liter(1994).
