Question for those who have done engine swaps in their trucks. I've got a F.I. 5.0 with an AOD and 3:73's, with 75 miles of around town driving I got roughly 10.5mpg. I figured this was kind of low, but I haven't been babying it at all, so I guess not really out of the realm of possibility. this morning I filled the tank and took a freeway trip of 53.4 miles. when I filled the tank back up, it only took 1.8 gal. that's 29.6mpg. This seems kind of off to me. I've been using the gps in my phone as my speedo/trip odo, so I'm not relying on the factory instruments, they aren't hooked up yet anyway. My best ever mpg with my Focus is only around 34.
So what have some of you guys seen as normal mpg's with your trucks?
Best I ever got was 18 with a 2barrel 351 and a C4.
I do agree that 10 is a bit low, but there ain't no way the 30 is real. There's an error somewhere in that math. I would believe that 20 or a little better, would be possible on the high end.
Yeah, I don't think 30 is real at all. I'm guessing the pump wasn't liking the filler neck that time for some reason. It stopped first at 1.5, then it auto stopped twice to get to 1.8gal. My dads 88 F150, 5.8/C6/3:55 is usually around 16 and my Ranger 4x4 is 17-18 pretty consistently. I was just kind of annoyed that something was wrong and I'm not sure what it is yet.
You need to go farther than 50 miles to do a fuel economy test, but you do have a fuel injected small block paired to an overdrive. I think you could be in the low twenties.
Yeah, that just happened to be the trip I made today. I went back out and looked at the truck a bit ago, the fuel level is about an inch below the cap right now. Makes me wonder how accurate my phone speedo gps app is.
Still curious what other people are seeing with theirs.
Well right now I'm not doing too hot. 12 is all I can muster. But I've still got an edelbrock carb, 351, and gears that are way too tall. AOD with 3.25s and 31" tires. I can't drive fast enough to get the rpms up.
Ive got a new holley carb showing up tomorrow. Hopefully I can get that puppy tuned up nice and have it improve mileage a bit. And I'm planning on re-gearing to 4.11s soon too so that should also help.
