I have a Ford F 150 1991 4x4 5.0 truck
I am not sure if it is the stock axle or not. What did they come with, and how can I tell what I have. Any markings to identify?

previous owner put 4.56 gears friont & back with Detroit lockers front & back.

 

Hell boy you got great gearing there why mess with it? If you wanna go to a smaller ratio I'd swap them with you I have 3.55 in mine! When they come from factory they have a tag, now you would be on your own! check owners manual.

 

Not changing out the gearing.
I guess what I mean is what axle housing? What Dana model? The Differential cover is not good & I want to get a new one, drain fluid put new gasket, replace cover.
is there any kind of nomenclature one these to identify then from the outside?

There should be a tag on the door jamb with the axle code. This will give you the original ratio.
