New used to be in 100 to $150 range I bought last one for about $15 at pick&pull. Module is a bright blue under dash above gas pedel on my 95.Unplug two wire plugs on it , metal bracket -you pry up on two(metal) strips to unlock and slip module out of bracket. Module is aprox 4-5 inch square about 1 1/4 thick Blue (PS make only code is 51!)
After you repaired 32, code 51 is pending meaning the internal fuse(32 blew fuse) in the air bag moniter is blown--must replace moniter(blue module)
Of course...that's why tnt still had the 51 code after the clockspring was replaced.
I have only ever seen the 51 code on my truck. Been there since I bought it.
I suppose it is possible that the previous owner had the clockspring fixed and then opted not to spend anymore money to fix the fuse.
Trueblue...are you familiar with any other likely spots where I might look for a short? I really would love to take care of it someday. In your last post did you mean to say "make sure that only code left is 51"
Does that mean that since I am only flashing 51 that replacing either the soldered fuse or the unit will solve remaining issue??
I would just be somewhat irritated if I replaced the module and it blew again.
New were in $100 to$150 ? range. Last one I bought was $15 at pick & pull.Blue module with two wire plugs on it snapped into metal bracket, my 95 is above gas pedel. LOL Blue
Sorry-- didn' think post went through. Ottawaguy Seen too many clocksprings have a code 32 one week and by time cust. came back then only had a 51 showing. If it was my personal vehicle I would replace clockspring(new) and module.IF ANY other code is flashing don't waste your money or time plugging in a module.(poss to get salvage yrd part that has fuse blown already- crashed in front area stay away from)Any air bag that has gone off IS A SHORT THAT HAS OCCURED blowing fuse. LOL Blue
52 is backup power supply-voltage boost fault and 53 is rad.primary crash front air bag sensor circuits resisitance to ground or air bag diag.monitor fault. Blue
Trublufords....Thanks. Everything I have read has lead me to believe that the clockspring is the culprit, though I have no way to be sure. If there was a problem with the clockspring, would it be obvious if I was to remove the wheel and look at the clockspring?(I'm guessing not, but thought I'd ask)
I have read stories of folks who have soldered in new fuses into that module. If I remember correctly, it looks like a resistor or something like that and can be purchased at electronics stores. I suppose if you pulled the module you could work on it easier. I highly doubt that I would ever go that route.
If it is at the very least visible inside the module, perhaps it would be possible to put tester to module to test a unit at junkyard,..if I could find a used one that hasn't deployed airbags. I likely would have steered away from a unit that had deployed airbags, but I was not aware that deployment automatically tripped that fuse.
Thanks again for the info
I have the same problem, went to junkyard and got a new blue box.Did not change anything.Someone on here has to had this fixed?????Please ,I am trying to sell my truck.
Doug, there is always the strong possibility that the unit from the junkyard is bad. Having said that I would likely go the route trublufords suggested.
That is to replace the clockspring first or you will likely just blow the thermal fuse in the new box. Perhaps that is what happened also????
Of course I would like to be able to tell if the short that originally caused the problem does indeed lie with the clockspring.
I have a spare instrument panel which I am looking at modding to house new gauges. The airbag light is one of the bottom ones that show through the cluster bezel. I plan to keep all these warning lights functional, so I will likely fix this problem inevitably. I'm guessing once the weather warms up.
Last year was so crazy busy with work that I never got to do much to my truck except for putting in the new rear suspension and welding in a new floor pan. I hope this year I get more time to tinker with my toys
