I have the same thing. I think that to be your problem. Either that or some wire came off like mine which I have to figure out. I'm sure you'll get some more specific answers.

you both need a new clockspring installed.

around 100 bucks.

disconnect battery first and let the air bag discharge for at least 15 minutes.

keep air bag away from face and body when out of vehicle.

What everyone's getting at is that this is going to be another big PITA. Basically on my truck I think the CS is OK, it's just that all the wires under the steering wheel column are not connected, someone messed with it that didn't have a clue what to do while trying to change the ignition, so I have to go through the whole thing wire by wire.

Here's a thread that has a brief description of how to change out the clockspring, and there's reference to pictures as well:

Thanks! Somewhere, that's a great set of pics. Hopefully I won't have to go that far, I just have a wire mess.

Do the airbag codes have to be cleared after changing the clockspring? I changed mine and I'm still getting a 51 code on the airbag light. If so, is the procedure to clear them accomplished by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 30+ minutes? Before I changed the clockspring I would get a 51 or 32 code.

A 32 code is a clockspring as when I replaced mine, it quit going off on the next start up and horn and cruise control worked again. I think you may have something else wrong.

The horn already worked. I don't have CC. I don't know what the 51 airbag code is. Anyone know?

The 5-1 code is..Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Open Due to Intermittent Short to Ground .
It is located in the blue box up under the dash.
TNT...Interesting to know that the clockspring replacement did not solve that code. I realize that the short can be anywhere, but assumed that is was there.
I also have the 5-1 code and have never found the time to fix it. I suppose that a thorough investigation of all the wiring will be needed. I have the schematics for the system somewhere and will put my testers to it one day.
I would like to find someone who has solved their 5-1 code.

After you repaired 32, code 51 is pending meaning the internal fuse(32 blew fuse) in the air bag moniter is blown--must replace moniter(blue module)Later Ford trucks have a replacable fuse (10 amp) in eng. comp. fuse box. Flashing codes are by priority, fix 32 first and if another is more of a priority than 51 it would have flashed it. I always warned cust. of poss. 51 after repairs of lower flash codes.Early air bag systems were harder to price effectly because 1 in 5 would come up with 51 after repairing first flashed code----the one and only one the owner saw. LOL Blue

Is that an expensive and/or PITA fix? The WHOLE blue module has to be replaced? Just making sure I'm understanding what you're saying Blue.
