I have a question, maybe a stupid question. On my 4.6 v8, where is the ignition switch located, and what does it look like. Is it actually the ECU, or am I just missing it. I have Chiltons guide, and it says the switch is on bolted to the steering column under the shroud, however, the only thing bolted to the steering column, is the multi function switch. This controls the wirpers, blinkers, hazards, etc... So, where is the ignition switch located. Anyone know?
To find the ignition switch, first thing is to take a small flat tip screw driver and gently remove the shroud above the column. Then remove the knee shroud below the column, look up and you will see a wiring harness pluged into a white box. That is your ignition switch. I would advise you to first disconnect the negative battery cable and wait about 2 minutes before you go and mess around that area. You wouldn't want to set off an air bag. Also, if you do plan on replacing it, then before you remove the old one, take your key and turn it to the run position first and leave it there. Before installing the new one, make sure you set it to the run position before installing it. good luck.
