Identifying rear end

Identifying rear end

Hello,

I have a 1956 f100 with a 1963 Lincoln 430. However, I need help identifying the rear end.

The rear end has a plug on the back, and a 10 bolt cover. There are markings on the housing, but I have no idea what they mean. On the top of the housing there is a marking "53-4", then on each side of the housing there is a marking "C32698". The only other markings that I can find are on the axle housing, and they are "9203B1" and "2585".

My guess is that this is not a stock F-100 rear end, since the drums look like they could stop a semi...The drums have dual everything, springs, wheel cylinders, etc...and are about triple the size of the front drums.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was talking to a buddy and he says because of the rear inspection cover it probably is a GM and the two wheel cylinders per wheel where used on the early 1950’s Buick or Olds and the big drums kina confirms this, are the drums finned?

measure the depth of the brake shoe, and see if there's a tag under any bolt head

A 430 ! Now that's different. I haven't seen one of those for about ten years. I thought they were all gone or in museums. That thing must have been put together some time ago. How does she go?

What's the bolt pattern on the rear end? Many of those 50's GM rears had a 5x5 pattern so the wheels would not also fit the front...

Yep, that was my first choice for a motor, but I couldn't find one, and when I did on Epay, I about fainted at the price. Lucky score!

It's a good running engine, and it has a 4 barrel carb on it, so she can go. The guy I bought the truck from told me that it was a 460, but it didn't take me long to figure out that he didn't know what he had.

I've actually been torn on what to do with the engine, it's a good engine, but if anything happens to it, it's going to be a little difficult and expensive to get parts. I've been kicking around the idea of selling it, and going to a BBF, but it's hard to compete with the 430 stock power ratings (they are known to be torque monsters). My dream would be to keep the 430, and find a Marauder intake for it, but the intake is even harder to find, and even more expensive.
