OK, so I bought new, stock rear leaf springs for my 56 F 100, but I am changing out the entire rear end, and housing to a Ford 9".
Problem I am having is, the stock bottom saddle is to narrow, and will not fit
properly under the 9" housing!
Does someone make a kit for this, or is there a mod I can do to make it all work?
Not sure what you are referring to as being too narrow. There is the spring perch mounting bracket that is welded to the axle tube and the plate bracket that the U-bolts go through.
Which is it?
(wider could also be from wheel to wheel which is the confusion area)..
Sam
Sam, yes, the 9" is wider front to back (not side to side), vs. the original housing.
I'm sure I can open up the U bolt holes to make the bolts fit, but then they will be on an angle, and not work, OR look right.
Also, the 9" will not sit properly into the perch!
measure the diameter of the axle tube, thats the number you will need to order new parts.. do NOT bend the U bolt.. its cheap to get the right ones, and be safe..
Right..............so here is what I did.
I took the original perch, cut it in half, and added a piece of steel big enough to pick up the width of the 3" new rear end. It's got the proper raduis, and fit like a glove.
Welded it back together and BINGO!
Worked like a charm!!
Now all I have to do is get the right size U bolts, and it's done.
Thanks again for all your help.
This is a great Ford site!!
you didn't say you could weld and stuff.. thats cheating!!..
BUT, you have to be sure that the position of the axle on the springs matches (that alignment hole)
Tractor Supply or Northern Tool should have the U bolts
Sam
LOLOL.............I do concrete for a living, and I do welding on the side, so my shop is pretty well stocked with all kinds of building/fabricating equipment.
So, why do I need that hole at the bottom of perch?
It doesn't align anything?
there is supposed to be a pin in the middle of the spring pack that the perch sits over to hold and align the perch and thus the axle.. Was on my TCI spring replace..
Sam
Crap, you're in Ill..(I was born in Danville, raised in Kankakee) I need some concrete work done.. but I'm in central texas... too far a daily drive I suspect!..

If you are leaving the axle tube under the leaf spring (stock location), the existing spring bolts will work since they clamp over the spring. The only thing you may need to change is that funny shaped flat iron piece as it has a hole for the center spring bolt and two indents for the spring bolts. You might have to lengthen that the same amount you lengthed the lower shock bracket.
If you're putting the axle above the spring, I'm really confused! (but that's not your fault, it comes with the territory as I reside in that state)
Good Luck,
